How Do You Define Luxury?

Luxury is in each detail.

Hubert de Givenchy

I couldn’t say it better. Look at that  picture and see the intense attention being paid to every detail of the dress. The fact that Audrey Hepburn is standing there wearing it is secondary. The focus is on the dress and ensuring perfection.

Our company’s tagline is collaboration, creation, perfection. To me, it encompasses every aspect of a luxury experience. The goods you receive are only part of the story. The “luxury” aspect of our time together will be found in the experience-in how I make you feel. Whether it’s one room or a whole home I’m doing with you, you will love the time you spend with us.

Allow me to walk you through a typical small engagement. In this case, we’re going to talk about a small project with high impact for our client.

Collaboration:

The final choice: Thibaut Chappana in Grey. Fabric available to the trade. Contact us for more information.

Our client has a beautiful, recently remodeled kitchen. Everything about it is so lovely. The lights, the counters, cabinetry, and tile are absolutely stunning. And yet…

The large window over the sink overlooked a pond in the distance so no one wanted to lose that view. They felt a bit exposed at night though. Additionally, kitchens typically have a lot of hardscapes. Tiles, flooring, and counters are all hard surfaces. What was needed was some softness to finish out the space. That’s where I come in! The designer, the client, and the staff at Swag discuss the style options and fabric. Sometimes options are eliminated because the fabric and the style won’t work together. It helps to have the expertise in the room. Once every detail is fixed, it’s time to get on with the next phase.

Creation:

An example of pattern match, with a French, or enclosed seam, on a sheer panel. The luxury is in the details.

For function, our client decided to install a motorized cellular shade for privacy and light control. She didn’t want to see this shade when it was fully up during the day and decided a simple valance to hang over the functional shade would work best. In this instance, our client opted to order a very simple box valance with a pleat at each corner. Simple in theory. In practice, this valance was wider than a width of fabric and needed to be seamed. Where to place seams and how to invisibly match the pattern is just one hallmark of a well made luxury window covering. It’s not uncommon to spend an hour or more just looking at the fabric to plan how it is going to be cut. The goal is to have a product at the end that anyone would look at and know it was custom made. It’s all in the details which would be a blogpost in itself. Trust me when I say, when you see quality, you know it.

Perfection:

The finished product of the kitchen window, overlooking the pond. The seams on this valance are located in the center of the left and rightmost leaf. Can you see them?

Creating it is one thing. Installing it is another. Our workroom can create the most magnificent window coverings and the whole effect would be destroyed if installed incorrectly. We hire only specialists to hang our products. Once they’re up, they get steamed and dressed. The effect? Everything our customer dreamed. Nothing makes us happier than exceeding expectations. If you’re investing in a custom product for the first time, you have no idea what a treat it is. We all love to be pampered. This is your chance!

So, if I were to define luxury, I’d have to agree with Monsieur Givenchy-it’s in the details. The details in the product. The details in the collaboration to come up with the perfect design. The details in the way you feel  both about the product and the experience of purchasing it. Luxury in home goods is not inaccessible. You can do small things and they’ll make a dramatic impact. It’s not buying a Mercedes.

You deserve it. Give us a call and let us put you in the lap of luxury - you won’t regret it. Just hit the “contact us” button!
